Brenda Uchimaru is a University of Toronto graduate. She has enjoyed her thirty-seven years in education with the Hamilton and Waterloo Boards as teacher, department head and consultant. She has recently retired from teaching fulltime vocal music at York region’s Unionville High School that is home to one of Ontario’s premiere arts programs. Brenda is the former artistic director of Hamilton’s Vox Nouveau Singers, and Wilfrid Laurier University Jazz Choir. She currently directs the Cambridge Male Chorus, her own chamber choir, Kokoro and is the interim artistic director of Toronto’s Bell’Arte Singers. She is on the Board of the Ontario Vocal Festival, is the Music Course Director for the Ontario Educational Leadership Centre and teaches the OISE/University of Toronto Summer Vocal Additional Qualification courses. “Uch” (that’s “Ooch”) is a frequent guest conductor, adjudicator/clinician at festivals and conferences, the most memorable being five years with the National Children’s Festival of the Arts in the Cayman Islands!
